NR Needs List: The First 6 weeks

You might notice that our needs list is rather small compared to others.  That’s because we truly believe that in the first six weeks or so of life, babies don’t really need that much “stuff.”

Here’s how to keep it simple:

CLOTHES FEEDING &/OR NURSING
  • Long-sleeved kimono shirts (3-4)
  • Onesies (3-4)
  • Footed Rompers (2-3)
  • Footed Pants (3-4)
  • Hats (1-2)
  • Baby gowns, with elastic bottom (2-3)
  • Booties/socks (2-3)
  • Nursing pads (consider washable)
  • Nipple Cream
  • Nursing tea
  • Nursing bras (1-2 with a wide range within a size e.g. S/M/L vs a specific band and cup size)
  • Bottles & Accessories
BABY GEAR PARENT CARE
  • Car seat
  • Sling or unstructured wrap carrier
  • Stroller
  • Somewhere for baby to sleep
  • Waterproof changing pad
  • Night light
  • Swaddle blankets (2-3)
  • Hooded Towel (2)
  • Baby First Aid supplies (nail clippers/files, thermometer, nasal aspirator)

  • Rest & Love
  • Maternity pads (maxi-pads)
  • Sitz bath herbs
  • Perinatal Bottles
  • Water bottle for drinking water
  • Bedside clock (so you can keep track of the time during nighttime feedings)
  • Important Phone Numbers list
  • Did we say Rest, & Love and LOTS of it?

     DIAPERING

    MORE HELPFUL "STUFF"
    • Diapers/Diaper Service (10-12 diapers per day)
    • Diaper covers if cloth diapering (5-7 total)
    • Diaper pail/bin for dirty diapers
    • Wipes (consider reusable)
    • Organic Olive Oil (slather on diaper area to prevent meconium sticking in the first few days – also great to moisturize baby’s delicate skin)
    • Diaper cream
    • Food delivery/setup (cook/freeze beforehand OR gather friends/family to use an online service OR enlist a meal delivery service)
    • Baby bath/soap/shampoo
    • Homeopathic Rescue Remedy (eases anxiety)
    • Homeopathic Arnica (speeds healing)
    • Burp cloths (cloth diapers make fantastic burp cloths!)
    • Nursing pillow
