Before diapers, there was Elimination Communication (or infant potty training). In many countries around the world, babies were potty trained by 12-18 months. Here in the states, it is not uncommon to see 3, 4, or even 5 years old still in diapers. Babies are born to communicate with us. They ‘tell us’ from a very young age that they need to go, but over time we’ve conditioned them to just go in their diaper. EC has been used for many years before modern society even had the means to diaper.
